How to Shop at Meijer, Day 28, Coupon Challenge

As part of our series on saving money, the Coupon Challenge, today we will check out Meijer.

About Meijer

Meijer was originally started in 1934 in Greenville, MI. Today, Meijer has over 190 stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. Their stores and gas stations, located in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, are open 24 hours a day. According to Meijer, in 1962   Meijer pioneered the first supercenter, which now offers a complete one-stop shopping experience, from Grocery and Health and Beauty Care to over 40 other departments including Fashion, Automotive, Home Decor, Pharmacy, Electronics, Pets and more…

Shopping at Meijer comes down to traditional coupons, internet coupons, mPerks (coupons loaded to your phone) and Mealbox coupons. Meijer also contributes to Upromise- be sure to get a Meijer card to get your Upromise benefits.

Meijer Coupon Policy

• They accept two kinds of coupons; Meijer issued coupons and manufacturer coupons:
• To be accepted, coupons must be presented before or on the expiration date
• Only one manufacturer coupon and one Meijer coupon for the same item will be accepted (unless prohibited)
• Mealbox and mPerks coupons are considered Meijer coupons
• They accept all valid internet coupons. These coupons must be presented before or on the expiration date. See store for additional details
• They reserve the right to limit quantities
• If the value of the coupon is more than the price of the item after discounts or coupons are applied, the value of the coupon will be applied up to the price of the item
• They do not apply the excess value of a coupon to the order total if the value of the coupon is over the price of the item after discounts or coupons are applied
• Only coupons for products carried in our stores will be accepted
• All coupons should be given to the cashier while you’re checking out and cannot be applied to a previous purchase

Meijer’s Catalina Coupons
Catalinas , (Custom Coupons   printed on the Catalina checkout coupon printer) are another benefit to shopping here. Catalinas have a coupon value, the terms of qualifications for redemption, expiration date, and UPC bar code. In the upper left-hand corner of the Catalina Meijer coupon, the words “store coupon” will be printed. Catalina Meijer coupons must have the Meijer logo to be redeemed under normal redemption policies at Meijer.

If a Catalina Coupon bears the logo of another retailer, they can accept it following our competitor coupon policies.

Competitors’ Coupons/Ads

Meijer will accept coupons for General Merchandise and HBC items. They do not accept competitors’ coupons on beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, double and triple coupons, clearance, percentage and dollar off discounts, special promotions, and Going out of Business sales. They will honor a competitor’s coupons and/or ads if the coupon or ad shows the competitor’s price point for the sale item. The item purchased must be the identical item to that mentioned in the coupon or competitor’s ad to be honored.

Meijer stores accept all competitor ads for identical and in-stock General Merchandise items.

Meijer also will extend  price matching to include Men’s, Women’s, Children’s Clothing, Shoes, Toys, Small Appliances, Floral, Garden, Hardware, Housewares, Plumbing and Electrical, Furniture, Gifts and Lamps, Sporting Goods, and Stationery.

They do have a few matching limitations such as manufacturer double and triple coupons, clearance, percent-off discounts, special limited quantities, buy one get one free offers, Supermarket/Grocery, going-out-of-business sales, liquor, and tobacco.

So, how does Meijer stack up in price to the others?

As part of the Coupon Challenge, we have been comparing the price of the same items at different stores.

Tips for shopping at Meijer

1. Meijer updates their sales for the week on Saturdays. If you sign up for their emails, you will be notified when they have posted these updates. Some items may even be available online on Saturday.

9. Meijer is know for their leader deals. Many of them are advertised at a deal if purchased in bulk. You only need to buy one to get the deal in most cases.
10. The good news about those leader bulk buy deals is, if you print plenty of coupons and remember to bring them with you, you can save a lot of money.
