How to shop at TJMaxx- The Coupon Challenge

If there is one thing that Posh on a Budget is expert on, it is shopping at TJMaxx. You may be asking, what does TJMaxx have to do with coupons since they really do not accept them.  Technically, they do accept one kind of coupon at TJMaxx, and this is our biggest tip for shopping there.

Tips on How to shop at TJMaxx/Marshalls.

  1. No two  TJMaxx/Marshalls stores are the same. If you are looking for a specific item, you may want to check another store.
  2. TJMaxx and Marshall’s get over 10,000 items a week in at each and every store. That’s verbatim from TJMaxx HQ.
  3. Less than 15% of their merchandise is old or past season. You’ll see it marked on the price tag.
  4. Look carefully at the “compare at” value on the price tags. By looking at the “compare at” prices you’ll be able to calculate exactly how much money you’re saving. I find that these are often conservative.
  5. Get to know your store’s layout. Everyone has their favorite section, whether it is the jewelry counter at T.J.Maxx that features high-end options including 14-kt. gold, sterling silver and semiprecious stones; or Marshalls Shoe MegaShop, which houses thousands of shoes for women, men and children in an easy-to-shop format.
  6. Befriend your store manager. Get to know your store manager and they’ll be able to give you the inside scoop on when new shipments arrive so you can grab your favorite brands as soon as they hit the floor.
  7. Not sure where to start? Try shopping the displays at the front of the store before easing into the racks. Merchandise in this area is organized by style and designer on four-sided clothing racks. This can be a good place to start as you work your way into the racks to search for even more styles organized by size.
  8. Look for the purple tags. Found on all types of clothing and accessories, these tags indicate a piece of elite designer merchandise normally found at upscale department stores. So, when scouring the racks, keep your eyes peeled for the stand-out lavender color to help find your favorite premium brand names.
  9. Scan the single queue. Don’t forget to look for last-minute gifts in the checkout line. The “single queue” checkout line is often full of interesting and unique items that can make great gifts, even for yourself!
  10. Never, ever, pass up a really good bargain. The stores receive limited quantities of each item, so merchandise can sell out very quickly. That perfect dress or handbag may not be there the next time.
  11. If you change your mind, the stores have very liberal return policies.
  12. Only get a cart if you know you will be able to pay for what you fill it with
  13. Shop alone, don’t bring anyone there who does not want to be there.
  14. Shop early in the day when racks are fresh and there are fewer shoppers.
  15. These stores generally open earlier than mall stores. Check your store’s hours.
  16. Some people walk into the stores and understand the layout with the many racks of items. The true Fashionista will consider it all as part of the hunt. No sales. No gimmicks. Just brand name and designer fashions for you, your family and your home, for up to 60% off department store prices – every single day.
  17. The typical TJMaxx shopper is an open-minded creative person who is able to see the possibilities of an item on the TJMaxx rack rather than looking for something specific.
  18. TJMaxx is not the store to shop at for something specific. Think in general terms.
  19. The best way to shop is to go in there with plenty of time to shop the racks.

Thank you for the tips. I have never accepted their offer of the reward card, maybe I should. I LOVE our local Marshalls and I also have a TJ Max within 10 miles.

I like the sound of the rewards card and I will have to revisit TJ Max with all of these tips and plenty of time.
Thanks!
