I know it may be a shock to some folks out there.
Not everyone wants chocolate or ‘Devils’s Food’ cake all of the time.
As a matter of fact, sometimes a basic yellow cake is the best way to go.
Sugar Free Basic Yellow Cake
Yellow cake is that standard cake that we have all enjoyed at some time or another.
We ate frosted yellow cake cupcakes at birthday parties as a kid. We had yellow cake with buttermilk frosting on it at a wedding or shower. Yellow cake is a standard cake that is just always there right?
Have you ever tasted a sugar free version of a yellow cake?
It is possible to have you cake and eat it too.
A yellow cake can be made without added sugar. Yellow cake can be eaten alone. Yellow cake can be frosted. Yellow cake can even be a layer with a chocolate cake.
This is a basic yellow cake recipe that has a sugar alternative rather than sugar in it.
I use Splenda in my basic sugar free yellow cake. You are welcome to use the sugar alternative of your choice as long as you use the equivalent in amount.
To make a layer cake, use two 8″ round cake pans.
I’ve recently discovered silicon cake pans. They are super cheap and so easy to use. Cleaning the silicon pans is a breeze as well.
I like to frost the top of this cake and between the layers with ganache rather than use a traditional frosting. I like that I can just pour the warm ganache over the cake rather than have to go through all of the trouble of frosting it. You can find my chocolate ganache recipe here.

- 1 1/2 cup equivalent Sugar Alternative
- 2 large Egg
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 1/2 cup Flour AP
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 2/3 cup Greek Yogurt
