We love out stores and we want to make sure that they stay there so that we can continue to love them. In order for the stores to stay in business, they need to profit. One method that stores use to get us to spend more money is strategy.

 5 Sneaky Ways we Get Duped While Shopping

There are ingenious strategies that stores will use to dupe us while we shop. Check these out.

1. The counter-clockwise journey.

As Americans, we are trained to stick to the right side when we drive, walk or simply move. Stores know this and are planning on us to do the counter-clockwise journey through their aisles. That’s why the more expensive items will be places to the right of the entrance. We’re more likely to grab these items first and by the time we get the the back to the lesser expensive items, we’re getting tired. Knowing this, you can head to the left next time you shop to avoid this strategy.

2.  Hands on strategy.

The more you can see an item and play with it, the more likely you are to buy it. For men, it’s electronics and gadgets. For women, it’s perfume and lotion testers. Don’t touch it and you won’t be tempted. On the other hand, it’s a good way to test something out before you buy it.

3. The items we most likely are interested in looking at are in the back of the store.

How many times have you had to walk through countless aisles to get to your destination? There is a reason for this.

4. Impulse items up front.

You’re waiting in line and you notice that candy bars are on sale for 99¢ each. Who cares if you could go down the candy aisle and get a pack of 3 for $2? The point is that you are hungry and want to check out.

5. Those big carts. Those nasty shopping bags.

Have you noticed that certain box stores have carts that have seem to have gotten deeper over the years? Or in certain stores (such as the bath ones at the mall)  there are greeters standing there offering you a bag to help you shop. If you say no, you’ll most likely be bombarded by that person again or their worthy co-worker. Your best strategy is to only buy what you can carry.
